SLEEPS 11 · 300m FROM THE BEACH1

A privately owned 5 Bedroom penthouse, owned and hosted by Port Douglas locals Mike & Christina. Book direct to save!

Welcome! We’re Mike & Christina, and this is our place — a 350 square metre penthouse at the top of the Mediterranean, in the heart of Port Douglas, opposite the Sheraton Mirage and a short stroll from Four Mile Beach.

It’s made for gathering the people you love under one roof, with room for everyone to spread out — and space to come back together. Have a look around, and if any questions come up, call or text us. We’re always happy to help.

Room for everyone — The lounges seat fifteen and the dining table seats ten, made for long, lazy dinners that drift into the evening. And there’s always a quiet corner for whoever wants to slip away with a book. Travelling with a bigger group? A sixth bedroom — a self-contained suite with its own kitchenette and lounge — is sometimes available. Just ask.

Never a dull evening — A baby grand piano and a guitar for the musical ones. Movie nights on the 100-inch screen with Netflix and Foxtel. A pool table, table tennis, darts, board games and shelves of books — there’s even a stage, for the theatrical members of the family.

A kitchen that can cater — Cook for ten with ease, or have caterers in for a milestone birthday — our guests have done both. A big two-door fridge with ice maker and chilled filtered water, capsule coffee machine, and wine glasses, of course.

Rest easy — All five bedrooms are spacious and set back from the road, so mornings can start as slowly as you like.

The little things — Tea, coffee and sugar waiting for you, hair dryers, beach towels — even stubby coolers. If you’re wondering whether we have it, we probably do.

Welcome to the Mediterranean, Port Douglas

You’ll find the penthouse up on the top floor of the Mediterranean, a small boutique resort wrapped in tropical gardens on Port Douglas Road.

As our guests, you have full use of the resort’s facilities — including the pool and spa, with its shaded pavilion and sun loungers, which guests are always delighted to find rarely busy.

The local shuttle passes the front gate every ten to fifteen minutes for the short hop into town, or it’s an easy fifteen-minute stroll.

The dreamy village of Port Douglas is an hour’s drive from Cairns along the breathtakingly beautiful Captain Cook coastal highway.

It lies between two World Heritage wonders — the Great Barrier Reef on one side, the Daintree Rainforest on the other — and sits on the Sustainable Top 100 list of global travel destinations.

Slow mornings on Four Mile Beach, long lunches on palm-lined Macrossan Street, galleries, boutiques and the Sunday markets: it is, quite simply, one of the most pristine places on the planet.

And it’s right outside your door.

Book Direct & Save

Why book with us direct?

Same penthouse, better price — and you can easily talk to us.

Keep your money for the holiday

The booking sites clip the ticket — up to 14% in fees, easily $300+ on a week's stay. Book with us and put it towards a reef trip or a good dinner on Macrossan Street instead.

You're dealing with us

Message or call, and it's Mike on the other end. We travel a bit, so a text is often quickest — but you'll always hear back from us.

We can be flexible

Early check-in, somewhere to drop the bags, a cot set up before you arrive — text me and I'll see what I can do. And you'll save by booking direct rather than on any booking site.

Best-rate promise applies to identical dates and conditions.

Port Douglas locals since the '90s · ★ 4.91 on Airbnb

Hi, we're Mike & Christina. We've been part of Port Douglas since the nineties — we bought the management rights to the Mediterranean back in 1997 and ran the resort ourselves for the best part of a decade, so we know this building down to the last light switch. Mike also owned and skippered the Tallarook on sailing tours to the reef out of Port for well over a decade. Between us, we know the town, the reef and the restaurants better than most.

Book with us and you're dealing with us, from first enquiry to check-out. Want to know which reef trip is actually worth it? Ask. Need an early check-in or somewhere to drop bags? Text me and I'll see what I can do.

Call or message anytime. We travel a bit these days, so if we don't pick up we might be in another time zone — but a text always finds us, and we'll get back to you.

Mike's tips

Free advice from thirty-odd years in Port Douglas.

View from the Port Douglas Penthouse balcony

Stock up on the way in

Stop at Dan Murphy's in Smithfield on the drive up if you're after a few drinks — much dearer in Port. There's a Coles there too for groceries.

Picking a reef trip?

Quicksilver is the biggest operator but carries a lot of people. Wavelength is a great trip with smaller numbers.

Getting around

We're 1km from Macrossan Street, opposite the Sheraton Mirage. The shuttle runs past every 10 minutes for about $4 — or it's a 15-minute walk.

Travelling with a bub?

There's a cot and high chair here. If you need extra baby gear, Oz Baby Hire will sort you out — 0407 315 591.

Fair warning: we're up the top

The penthouse is on the top floor and there's no lift — we even offered to pay for one, but body corporate said no. Two flights of stairs, then the best space in Port.

Smaller group? Just ask

You don't always need all five bedrooms. Booking direct for a smaller group? Call me and we'll talk about the rate.

Tour pickups are easy

We're right on the main road, so reef and Daintree tour buses pick up and drop off at the door. Quiet by the pool, handy out the front.

Don't pack beach towels

They're provided. So is pretty much everything else — if you're wondering whether we have it, we probably do.

"10/10 in every aspect. Not only was the property beautiful, well presented and loaded with things to do, the owners were an absolute pleasure to work with... We could easily have 8–12 people in there and still all have your own space... it feels more like a home than a house. We have a 9-week-old bub, and this was his first trip away — could not have asked for a better experience."

"This unit was perfect. We celebrated my 60th with family and friends and had everything we needed for a large crowd. Piano, guitar, pool table, table tennis, games, books, beach and pool... everything we needed for entertaining and catering for 10 guests. Will definitely book this place again."

"I have never stayed in an Air BnB which was so well equipped — there was literally everything you could wish for... so much space for our family of eight and everything was spotless... if we are ever in Port Douglas again we would love to return to The Penthouse."
